Floods and Landslides Claim 153 Lives Across Country

Kathmandu: Incessant rains have resulted in devastating floods and landslides across Nepal, claiming the lives of 153 people since Jestha 28th. The continuous downpour has triggered disasters in various parts of the country, leading to significant loss of life and property.

The death toll has been reported as follows: 3 deaths in Kathmandu Valley, 25 in Koshi Province, 6 in Madhes Province, 29 in Bagmati Province, 43 in Gandaki Province, 29 in Lumbini Province, 8 in Karnali Province, and 10 in Far West Province.

Numerous injuries have also been reported: 10 injured in Kathmandu Valley, 37 in Koshi Province, 10 in Madhes Province, 10 in Bagmati Province, 34 in Gandaki Province, 11 in Lumbini Province, 51 in Karnali Province, and 14 in Far West Province. The injured individuals have been transported to local hospitals for treatment.

Efforts to rescue those affected have been ongoing. In Kathmandu Valley, 26 people have been rescued, 49 in Koshi Province, 12 in Bagmati Province, 14 in Gandaki Province, 2 in Karnali Province, and 5 in Far West Province.

Several people are still missing due to the disasters. This includes 47 missing in Koshi Province, 42 in Bagmati Province, 1 in Gandaki Province, 1 in Karnali Province, and 1 in Southwestern Province. Search operations for the missing individuals are currently underway.

The floods and landslides have caused extensive property damage: 384 houses inundated, 261 houses damaged, 95 sheds damaged, 43 bridges damaged, 2 schools damaged, and 2 government offices damaged. Additionally, 743 animals have perished in the disasters.

A total of 4,238 families have been displaced due to the calamities. The police, in coordination with various agencies and local residents, are actively involved in relocating families to safer locations, retrieving buried possessions, and providing protection and support to those affected.

Efforts continue to manage the aftermath of these disasters and provide necessary aid to the impacted communities.
